The Lowdown on LED Technoogy
Okay, let's get a better understanding of the LED technology the powers this new line of televisions. LED TV is the name that's been used by Sampsung to describe their range of LED backlit LCD TV's. In fact, these televisions are simply LCD models that Hughes light emitting diodes rather than fluorescent lights to illuminate in the rear panels. In fact, the phrase led TV is a hotly disputed name for this type of television.
Now, if lets get a better understanding of what these televisions are all about. The key points to note with LED televisions are:<
- They can produce an extremely bright image with even greater levels of contrast and deeper blacks compared to the standard LCD TV models.
- Because they use edge led lighting the LED TV's can be extremely thin, as little as just over 1 inch thick.
- On average, the consume about 40 per cent less than the standard LCD television.
- They offer a wider colour gamut, especially when RGB-led back lighting is used.
- The led TV models have a higher refresh frequency resulting in clearer, crisper images on the screen.
- More environmentally friendly than ever before.
The last point to note here is that these models have far less impact on the environment is manufacturers have been keen to get away from using polluting technologies to build their televisions. This means that the days of building T V's using a nasty chemicals like mercury are long gone.
As a said before, these televisions are not true backlit led TV's as the technology for that type of display is currently reserved for much larger screens i.e. the type seen on sports pictures. The TV models from the likes of Sony etc, currently use light emitting diodes arranged around the edge of the screen to creates the stunning images that was fast becoming accustomed to. That said, there have been rumours but some of the TV manufacturers are actually building true backlit LED televisions.
These types of T V's actually offer a number of benefits over the standard CCFL type televisions if including lower power consumption a much brighter displays. On top of this LED arrays offer the colour gamut this is probably about twice that typically seen in a to CCFL LCD televisions.
The first television to feature edge LED lighting was the Sony ZX1 Bravia which launched late last year. Although this only version produced stunning pictures an attractive to a great deal of attention from television plans the high price and lot of connectivity options meant that this model wasn't the success that it could have been.
Another point to note, the first led TV was actually manufactured way 2005.
